The Evolution of Colgate Women's Games

Over 50 years, Colgate Women's Games has become more than just the nation’s longest-running indoor track & field series for girls and women. We’ve created a legacy.

1974

Let the Games Begin

Colgate Women’s Games is established by legendary track coach Fred Thompson and Colgate-Palmolive. The competition, held at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, is open to female students in New York City, with scholarships awarded to first place winners.

1975

Finals at the World’s Most
Famous Arena

The first Finals take place at Madison Square Garden, where they were held through 2012.

1980s

Creating More Opportunities

Scholarships are added for second and third place finishers while the competition is expanded to include women aged 30 and above.

1988

Open Lanes

Eligibility expands to include girls from anywhere in the United States, creating more opportunities to compete for educational scholarships.

1993

A New Logo for a New Decade

A new logo is introduced to represent the flowing strength in every athlete.

2013

Changing the Field

The Finals are moved to The Armory (now the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory) which boasts one of the world’s fastest indoor tracks.

2021-2023

Staying on Track

The Games move outdoors while the COVID-19 pandemic halts indoor activities.

2024

Going Home

The Games return to indoor competition at The Armory, with record attendance. For the first time, all meets are livestreamed.
